Salsa Salsa Salsa

Not going to be a lengthy post, here. Just wanted to share a photo from a feature hunting expedition Sunday afternoon as I looked around for people enjoying the beautiful weather.

This shot is from some folks dancing up a storm on the Boston Common gazebo as part of Boston Rueda’s weekly Cuban salsa dance practices.

Double Trouble

Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes it rains.

That pretty much sums things up when you’re shooting baseball, and a pretty important reminder to always check the weather forecast and make sure you have proper rain gear.

The Herald had me scheduled for one of the Red Sox games for that weekend, but with Hurricane Irene bearing down on the Boston area, there was no way a game could have happened on Sunday. So, the Red Sox’ solution was simple —- doubleheader.

It’s been 5 years since I last shot a doubleheader, and 5 years since I shot in the rain. Just my luck, I got to do both in the same day. Some 12 hours later, with only 4.5 of those hours being baseball, I was done with an epic, exhausting and downright miserable day.

Here’s a small selection of my pictures from a very wet doubleheader.

Oh yeah, and there was some baseball being played, too.

And in case you were wondering, yes, we were all very wet in the photo wells.

But that doesn’t mean I couldn’t have a little fun during the rain delays, too!

Quack.

#SnowLoko In Detail

Now that I’ve had a little bit of time to sit down and digest the hectic season of work mixed with holidays mixed with weather, here’s a more thorough look at last week’s epic Northeast blizzard.

With the snow expected to hit hard, the Herald had a bunch of us working last Sunday hit up various angles to find snow features. Knowing about my skiing background, the folks at the Herald kept me out of the city and looking for features at local ski areas. It was obvious that ski areas were salivating over the idea of 2 feet of fresh snow during winter vacation week, so I had a great opportunity to hit up my old stomping grounds at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, Mass., where I spent two seasons as a ski instructor in high school.

And then it was back into the city after the sun went down and the snow really started coming down. I had a simple assignment — to walk around and literally keep an eye out for plows to shoot specifically for the cover design. I did come across a few other poor souls braving the storm, but at least this guy was making it easier for us fools to walk around out there…

And of course, when I made it back to the office, our security guard wouldn’t let me in the building until I shook off the snow I had acquired on my stroll. I was a little disappointed there wasn’t more. Oh well.

And of course, the fruits of my labor…
