Mob Scene

So how cool is this? My cousin’s band sold out the Middle East Downstairs last night.

The band, three dudes also known as The Glitch Mob, kicked off their tour last week after playing the Coachella music festival. This time around, my cousin, Ed, got to come home and play a venue he’s dreamed about playing, and the crowd reciprocated.

When you get the kind of access that comes with being a blood relative, well, you take advantage of it. Here’s a quick take from what ended up being a full card.

Musical Chairs

I had the pleasure of spending some quality time with friends new and old at a small house party/show/jam session over the weekend. Some very talented musicians provided some excellent tunes while I fumbled my way through with the visuals.

Here’s a look at the festivities.

For those about to rock…

I guess I wasn’t done digging through my archive, because I went through last night and dug up some old concert photos from my time in Tampa.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love music. I don’t function without music playing for a good part of the day. Live music, in particular, is what I like to spend my time and money on. Lucky for me in Tampa, I had a lot of friends in bands or otherwise intimately involved in the local scene, so I was never a stranger at most of the local venues.

And with the number of hobbyists with DSLRs at smaller club shows, it’s no wonder why — music is fun to photograph. It’s not particularly challenging. Everything is reasonably lit for you… most of the time. the performers are giving you good emotion… most of the time. Here’s a one from some friends of mine, The Beauvilles. Rock music from Tampa, Florida:

Shawn, the lead singer of the band, has been a friend and a soccer teammate of mine up until I moved, but he’s never let me down with the photo ops.

Of course, an arena show every now and then is always fun! There’s no substitute for a decent band melting the faces of 10k+ people in a packed arena. Easily the best band I’ve shot in arena setting is Taking Back Sunday. Adam Lazzara does not disappoint when it comes to stage presence:
