Newt-ered

Seems like I’ve posted a lot of politics on here lately — it is election season, after all. These next few will be no exception.

I got my crack at the New Hampshire primary circus this past Sunday, with my first stop being a Newt Gingrich campaign event at the Don Quijote Restaurant in Manchester, N.H., for a hispanic town hall. I heard someone call this stage of the presidential campaign “the petting zoo,” where it’s easy to meet, hear and touch the candidates. Having only covered past presidential races well past this point, it was refreshing to be able to get into the thick of things.

Here’s some Newt for ya!

Tea Time for Mitt

I’m always happy whenever I pick up a political assignment. Much like sports, you get tons of passionate people, sometimes doing some pretty… interesting… things. Take this Tea Party Express rally I covered for the Boston Herald a few weeks ago. Former Massachusetts Governor and GOP candidate for president Mitt Romney was scheduled to speak to some folks at a Tea Party-sponsored event in Concord, N.H., but given his record with the healthcare reform and his well-documented change of positions, there was a contingent of “Anti-Romney” protesters at the fringes.

It all made for a lively environment, to say the least.

And here’s how the Herald ran it:

The Other Tito Jackson

With some fresh ideas in my head thanks to an inspiring weekend at the Northern Short Course, I spent part of my Sunday afternoon with Tito Jackson, who is campaigning for the District 7 City Council seat. District 7, if you follow local Boston politics at all, was last held by Chuck Turner, who was expelled and convicted for a bribery scandal earlier this year.

Jackson is a smooth and likable guy, and he was really working it outside the Super Stop and Shop. With endorsements from pretty much everyone out there, early analysis points to his biggest opponent in Tuesday’s election being low turnout.

Here’s a few pictures I made with the candidate.
