EdX Online

One of the major initiatives you’ll likely see at major research universities across the country is online learning. Offering coursework for free online to whoever wants to take it around the world may seem counterintuitive, but can actually offer valuable, real-time metrics to improve teaching techniques for the practitioners. That idea is what drives EdX Online, a joint venture between Harvard and MIT to offer their introductory-level coursework online.

The always great folks over at the Chronicle of Higher Education sent me over to Harvard’s medical campus to capture one of these lectures. It’s a bit different seeing two professors sitting alone in a room, talking to no one except a camera. There are tradeoffs to everything, I suppose, but it’s still a cool concept that is catching on for obvious reasons.

If you can get behind the paywall, be sure to check out the full story at the Chronicle.
