Bessemer All Hands Portraits

Last week I got a call from Bessemer Venture Partners, a small, global venture capital firm that was having its annual “all hands” meeting over in Harvard Square. It wasn’t too complicated of a job, which was to basically create some fun executive headshots and portraits for their 50 employees.

The client really enjoyed my ongoing family series and wanted me to replicate that look for Bessemer. A lot of times, it’s tough to get some authentic, candid moments out of people who aren’t used to being photographed, but this particular group was awesome. You could definitely tell they enjoyed the setup, and that always makes for great photos.

Here’s a sample from the literally thousands of frames I fired off that day.

For those who are interested in the setup, my assistant Emily Zilm and I built a small studio in one of the conference rooms at the Charles Hotel next to the meeting room. We used a 9-foot white seamless, lit with two umbrella monolights with a 5-foot softbox as a main light and a single gridded light as a rim light.

And of course, we couldn’t let the day go by without documenting our setup (we are journalists, after all)!

Much thanks to Bessemer Venture Partners and the Charles Hotel!
