Happiness for me is hanging out next to the baseball field, in case you couldn’t tell from my sports portfolio. But the next best thing is softball, because it’s basically the same sport, but on a much smaller field with less reaction time.
This photo is from a game I shot yesterday between Bishop Fenwick High School and St. Mary’s. The player sliding in to home, Kristina Burri, is my kind of player — basically being a pain in the butt, baiting and taunting the catcher to try for a pickoff every time she got on base. Reminds me of myself!
4.7.2010 — PEABODY, Mass. — St. Mary's second baseman Kristina Burri scores on a wild pitch from Bishop Fenwick's Alyssa Begin, right, and an off-target toss from catcher Amanda McInnis in St. Mary's 9-3 at Fenwick.
Burri also scored from first on a throwing error as she was stealing second, without a play at home (which wasn’t a very interesting picture). Gotta love the team speed!
It’s a weird feeling to see a high school kid you photographed four years ago play for the NCAA National Championship. Mostly, it’s a reminder of how fast time goes by, as well as how much has changed for me professionally since then.
Here are some pictures I made in 2006 for the Tampa Tribune of Shawn Vanzant, who played on the Butler team that eventually lost to Duke. It’s a great story for a kid who otherwise had some serious bad luck tossed his way. Wish the ending had a different outcome this time, though — But still, what a game!

And a simple headshot for the preseason preview page.

I thought I’d take some time today to do a little bit of updating to the blog layout, spicing things up by making the content pages much wider to accommodate, you guessed it, bigger photos. Small just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore, so a few extra pixels should come in handy presenting my latest endeavors in the photo world.
Here are a few snaps I made on yet another beautiful day outside. Apparently, pilots can now fly planes like these while on anti-depressants. How about that?
