New promo cards

Like many other recently laid off photojournalists out there, I’m stuck in a unique place. Being a newspaper photographer, I’ve built a career as a generalist — a jack of all trades, master of none. Basically, I do a lot of things well, but I’ve yet to define myself through a particular specialty.

Sure, there’s a lot of things that I like to photograph, but the important thing right now is getting paid. There’s a lot of competition.

Anyway, I’m trying to brand myself as a lifestyle and portrait photographer, really just to open myself up to a larger potential client base that I might have as a straight up photojournalist.

Here’s my latest attempt at a promo card:

I’m hoping to get these to the printer some time in the next few weeks, so any feedback anyone out there could give me would be much appreciated!

Another front page

Happy Memorial Day!

It just wouldn’t be a Sunday before Memorial Day without me working a holiday event and dealing with an afternoon T-storm. Wait. Didn’t I leave Florida?

Two front pages in one week! I don’t even think I pulled that off at the Trib, and I worked there every day! Sure, there’s text on the photo, but I thought it was a pretty tastefully done cover.

Happy Memorial Day!

Anyway, shout out to Alysis Richardson for getting a nice front-page blurb on her first day on the city desk.

The other white meat

So this is what I had for dinner tonight…

This is a smoked pork shoulder, which was then shredded into pulled pork and drizzled with some tangy Carolina-style sauce. I love Memorial Day BBQs, especially when the food is this good.
